Free Press (Publisher) Information

Free Press is a book publishing imprint of Simon and Schuster. It was founded by Jeremiah Kaplan (1926–1993) and Charles Liebman in 1947 and was devoted to sociology and religion titles. It was headquartered in Glencoe, Illinois, where it was known as The Free Press of Glencoe. The Free Press was sold in 1960 and was then merged into the Macmillan Publishing Company.

One of the best-known imprints specializing in serious nonfiction, Free Press has been led by publisher Martha Levin since 2001.[1] In 2003, two of the five finalists for the 2003 National Book Award in the non-fiction category were Free Press titles, including the winner, Waiting for Snow in Havana by Carlos Eire.[2] In 2008, Free Press published The White Tiger, Indian author Aravind Adiga's debut novel, which won the Man Booker Prize.[3]
