The word refers both to a particular process and to the condition that results thereby. The nature of the latter has been for millennia a central concern of the world's religious traditions and of philosophical enquiry. Belief in some kind of afterlife or rebirth has been a central aspect of many religious traditions. Since contemporary science has yet to identify the origin and nature of consciousness, any view about the existence or otherwise of consciousness after death remains speculative. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include predation, malnutrition, accidents resulting in terminal injury, and disease. Death of an entire species is known as extinction. Human activity has increased the number of extinctions in recent times, one cause, for example, being the destruction of ecosystems as a consequence of the spread of industrial technology. Almost all animals fortunate enough to survive hazards to their existence eventually die from senescence. Rare and remarkable exceptions include the hydra and the jellyfish turritopsis nutricula, both thought to be, in effect, immortal. Causes of death in humans as a result of intentional activity include suicide, homicide and war. From all causes, roughly 150,000 people die around the world each day. Physiological death is now seen as less an event than a process: conditions once considered indicative of death are now reversible. Where in the process a dividing line is drawn between life and death depends on factors beyond the presence or absence of vital signs. In general, clinical death is neither necessary nor sufficient for a determination of legal death. A patient with working heart and lungs determined to be brain dead can be pronounced legally dead without clinical death occurring. Precise medical definition of death, in other words, becomes more problematic, paradoxically, as scientific knowledge and medicine advance. From Wikipedia under the

In my last question, "What makes you fear or love roller coasters" someone answered, "The thrill, adrenalin rush, coming so close to death at any second, trying something new" Why is coming so close to death so thrilling? This could be the huge factor in why there is a huge split in the population why some people adore or hate roller coasters. Answer any way you like. Asked by Shannon B - Wed Oct 22 20:22:39 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Any extreme sports can kill you. Race cars, hiking, sky diving and roller coasters. It has been known that mechanical problems on roller coaster rides have killed many riders since the Roller Coaster was invented. The risk of dying is a thrill that causes a chemical reaction in your blood stream. The chemical releases are called stereoids. Your body produces stereoids naturally when faced with fight or flight. Those that put their precious body at risk with extreme sports are addicted to steroids. A steroid addict will betray the human body. The steroids' high is not worth a life time. I was planning on getting something amusing to keep my geometry notes in for next year, but i looked at a few of these death note suspension cases and am now a bit more reluctant. However the suspensions on the news were for writing names in their notebook(something I don't intend to do.) The 'Death' part on the front could also make problems. But is that enough for me to get punished? Asked by Timothy - Mon Jun 14 14:25:09 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think you would be asking for controversy and may be best to leave the notebook outside of school even if there is no hidden agenda. Answered by OneHappyMommy - Mon Jun 14 14:31:03 2010 What's the difference between a death investigator and a medical examiner or Coroner?
Q. My 25 year old son died and a death investigator was sent out and not a medical examiner or coroner??? I have unanswered questions concerning his death. Any information given would be appreciated. No autopsy was performed on my son. Asked by Sheri G - Thu Oct 18 21:34:46 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. A death investigator works for the county and is sent to the scenes of death to investigate, photograph and document the circumstances surrounding the death. It is not uncommon that the medical examiner did not come, they are the doctors who perform autopsies (basically they work 9-5). They do not go to the scene of death. I presume you live in a city where they employ a medical examiner, as a coroner is an elected position (not necessarily a doctor), yet they may not always go to the scene either if there are death investigators. The investigator must have determined from the circumstances that an autopsy was not necessary or they would have ordered one.
